Music that inspires you to dance. For us that is music primarily from the 1930s & 40s or more recent but with that same feeling. Sometimes it is fun to deviate from the norm, for instance the Beatles song “When I’m Sixty-Four” can be a lot of fun to dance to. Some people like to try to swing dance to just about anything, but we tend to be inspired more by traditional sounding swing.
For beginners, all three of the Indigo Swing albums have a lot of tracks at a good tempo with obvious beats. The Frankie Manning’s Favorites album features many fun songs and Slim Gaillard’s music is generally easy to dance too. We have had good luck buying the 4-cd box sets published by Proper-UK. Of course, we recommend you listen to samples from a cd before buying it to ensure it has music you like.
The vast majority of our recent music purchases are online purchases. Amazon has a large selection of music and you can get a lot of box sets fairly cheaply. Also, you can listen to a sample of each track (usually) before you buy. Some people prefer iTunes or other music services, but if you are like us & generally buy full albums, Amazon is great.
