This class introduces the footwork and patterns of the 8-count basics, the foundation of Lindy Hop: side-by-side Charleston, Lindy circle, and swingout from closed and open positions.
This class introduces the footwork and patterns of 6-count swing. Lindy Hop uses both 8 & 6 count patterns, therefore this class is necessary to progress in Lindy classes. However, it is also a great place for you to quickly and easily introduce yourself to swing dancing and be able to have fun on the floor. We teach a variety of turns including the tuck turn, the follower’s inside turn, she goes-he goes, the leader’s pass-off turn, and the u-turn. In addition, we teach the jig kicks, a great way to change the feel & look of the dance.
In this class we start by reviewing the steps learned in Beg. Lindy Hop & Beg. East Coast Swing and practice the transitions to flow seamlessly between the 8-ct. of Lindy Hop & the 6-ct. of East Coast Swing. We will then build the basic Lindy repertoire with several swingout variations (leader’s turn, follower’s outside turn, follower’s inside turn, and texas tommy), some 6-ct. turns from a handshake position, tuck double turn, & the cakewalk. While we add to the repertoire, we continue to emphasize and develop connection and lead/follow technique.
The Intermediate classes may be taken in any order. Each class builds repertoire while focusing on technique and partnering skills and requires a strong foundation in the basics. Each class includes variations of the swingout (patterns and/or footwork), tuck turn, cross-hand leads and Charleston. These classes are distinct, and we recommend taking each Intermediate class (A, B, C, D, and E) before proceeding to more advanced Lindy classes. Although many of our special topics classes don’t require the intermediate classes, the skills learned in the intermediate classes help.
We offer a variety of 4 week classes, mainly for the intermediate through advanced levels but some are open to all levels. Topics include jazz steps, trick moves, technique and styling, partner Charlestons, aerials and many more. We welcome suggestions for upcoming sessions.
